Convert HTML to a WordPress theme with AI.

Download the html2wp app, click Prepare environment on first launch and sign in with your ChatGPT account. Then click New project, choose the folder or ZIP with your site and start a Flash or Full conversion: Flash in about half an hour, Full in about an hour, depending on the number of pages and your computer. The app builds the site, opens every page in a real browser, turns it into a WordPress theme and installs that theme into a temporary WordPress on your computer to check it. The Compare tab then shows every page beside the original at three widths (1440, 820 and 390 px), and you save the finished theme from the Exports tab. The free tier converts up to five pages and up to 100 MB per conversion and needs no key; a Pro licence removes the limits on conversions and pages, raises the site size to 512 MB and adds converting a shop to WooCommerce.

No. html2wp is a desktop app for macOS and Windows (with a plugin for Claude Code and Codex as well), and it runs on your own computer, so you never upload anything through a website. You add a folder or ZIP from your disk to the app. Measuring, comparing with the original and fixing all run on your machine; only your site converted into an Astro project goes to the server, which builds the theme from it. The server returns the finished WordPress theme and deletes the uploaded site after 48 hours. That is also why the app needs Docker Desktop: it installs the theme into a temporary WordPress on your computer and checks it there before you see it.

A standalone WordPress theme in a ZIP file, ready to upload, and a conversion report as a PDF or Markdown file: what was converted, the warnings from the conversion and what is still left to polish. Plus the Astro project the theme was built from. You find all of it in the app's Exports tab. The theme is fully usable on its own; the free Visual Edit Lite plugin adds click-to-edit, and Visual Edit Pro is a separate licence.

1:1 means the theme has the same code as your site: nothing rebuilds your sections, so the design is not re-approximated page by page. The app then compares every page with the original at three widths (1440, 820 and 390 px). It is beta, so the automated checks catch most differences, not all of them. A check that fails is written into the report, and the app still hands over the best usable theme with its shortcomings described. That is why we recommend looking through the pages in the Compare tab before you hand the theme to a client.

For the free tier you do not need one: download the app and convert, three conversions of up to five pages and up to 100 MB each, no key needed. For commercial use, pick Pro on the pricing page, monthly or yearly, and pay through Paddle, which sells Pro on our behalf and handles VAT and the invoice. The key arrives by email once the payment goes through; cancel any time and it works to the end of the period you paid for. While the beta runs, the first payment is 30% off, applied at checkout. A purchase can be refunded within 14 days if the key has not been used.

On the subscription page, linked in the footer of every page and in every licence email. From there Paddle's customer portal lets you cancel, change the card and download invoices, and monthly Pro can be switched to yearly. The portal also opens from the link in any Paddle receipt, and it signs you in with a link sent to the email address you bought with, so there is no password. Cancelling stops the next renewal: the key keeps working to the end of the period you paid for, nothing more is charged, and every theme you converted stays yours. Cancelling is not a refund; refunds are covered by the refund policy.

The free version gives you 5 re-runs shared across all your conversions; with Pro they are unlimited. A re-run is the same site uploaded again, for example when you run a conversion once more. The server recognises it by its fingerprint (hash), so it counts as a re-run, not a new conversion.

Your site converted into an Astro project (pages, styles, scripts, images and fonts) goes to the server, along with what each page is, because that is what the theme is built from. The server returns the finished WordPress theme and deletes the uploaded site after 48 hours. Once the theme is verified, the app sends only the check results: which passed and which failed, page counts and the short names of pages that failed. No web address, no code, copy, images or licence key. Files with passwords and keys are not sent, and you find them listed in the report. Most of the work is driven by the AI in your ChatGPT account, and what it works on is processed by OpenAI under the terms of your account.

The checks run on your computer, against a WordPress our server never sees. Without their results the server only knows that a conversion did not crash, and nothing about whether it came out right. So the next conversion starts only once the previous one has sent its results. Only those results are sent: no web address, no code, copy or images. The app sends them automatically; there is nothing for you to do.

Flash in about half an hour, Full in about an hour, depending on the number of pages and your computer. It mostly runs without you.

Flash is the quick conversion and the default in the app. Every step runs once. Menus, the blog, a shop and forms are detected and wired straight away, the checks run once and their results are in the report. It takes about half an hour. It suits most sites and a quick try. Full is the thorough conversion. It goes through every check and tries to fix the faults it finds. It takes about an hour and uses more of your ChatGPT subscription's limit. It is worth it for more complex sites, or when Flash left many points to polish in the report. Both modes always hand over a usable theme with a note on anything left over, and you can look through the result, compare it with the original and adjust it in the chat. The exact time depends on the number of pages and how fast your computer is.

In the app you choose the AI model and its reasoning level (Reasoning effort). For a regular conversion, GPT-6-Luna at Extra high is enough. It's cheap, uses little of your ChatGPT plan's allowance and handles most sites on its own. For repairs, such as a Full conversion or changes through the chat, we recommend the more capable GPT-6-Sol at Medium or High. GPT-6-Astra is the strongest and most expensive model. You don't need it for everyday work, but it can help when Sol can't solve a problem. You can switch models whenever no conversion is running, and every project can have its own.

In the app, click Connect with ChatGPT. The app shows you a 9-character code and opens an OpenAI page in your browser. Pick your ChatGPT account there, or sign in. The page then asks for a code “from the terminal” and mentions Codex CLI. That is fine: the html2wp app uses Codex, and the code it wants is the one from the app. Paste it in (click the code in the app to copy it) and click Continue. The app updates by itself once you are signed in. You type your ChatGPT password only on the OpenAI page; the app never sees it. Never send the code to anyone, and enter it only when you have just started the sign-in yourself.

html2wp converts real sites and is used on real work, but the automated checks catch most differences, not all of them. A check that fails is written into the report, and the app hands over the best usable theme with its shortcomings described. We recommend looking through the pages in the Compare tab before you hand a site to a client; do not promise a client a result you have not looked at. When the converter itself is wrong, report it and a person reads it; fixes ship as service updates.
